Volunteers plant 109,000 trees in new woodlands
Volunteers have planted more than 109,000 trees across Lancashire in the past year, creating new woodlands and restoring habitats. The work aims to benefit wildlife, help tackle climate change and improve people’s wellbeing.
More than 1,200 volunteers took part, establishing woodland across an area equivalent to 154 football pitches, alongside 61 orchards and 17 micro-forests. Across the last two planting seasons, the Lancashire Woodland Partnership has planted almost 500,000 trees and laid more than 27,233 metres of hedges; it is inviting more landowners to discuss creating woodland and restoring habitats.
