Warframe: Tau Expansion Reveals Second Solar System Coming Later in 2026
Digital Extremes unveiled Warframe: Tau at this year's Tennocon event, announcing the game's expansion into a second solar system. The new Tau system introduces players to Fornax, a ringed city drawing aesthetic inspiration from film noir, Blade Runner, and The Sopranos. This expansion propels players beyond the familiar Origin system into territory controlled by the Sentients faction, representing a significant progression milestone for the long-running looter shooter.
The update is scheduled for launch later in 2026, building on momentum from last year's The Old Peace expansion. Digital Extremes presented the new content through a 30-minute reveal trailer during Tennocon, the annual showcase event for both Warframe and its upcoming companion title Soulframe.

Digital Extremes is the Canadian studio behind Warframe, a long-running online action game in which players control powerful space ninjas known as Tenno. The game has been continuously expanded since its 2013 launch, and Tennocon is its annual fan convention, where the studio reveals major updates for both Warframe and its newer companion title, Soulframe.
Until now, Warframe has been set entirely within the Origin system, the game's version of our own solar system. Tau will be the first time the game expands beyond it, taking players into a new star system controlled by the Sentients, a longstanding robotic enemy faction in Warframe's story, and introducing a new city called Fornax.
This matters because Warframe has built its lasting popularity on regularly adding large, story-driven expansions rather than being a one-off release, and Tau represents one of the biggest structural changes to the game's world since it began. It follows last year's The Old Peace expansion and is due to launch later in 2026.
