Warframe’s fantasy-pilled sister Soulframe finally goes open to all this November, though Digital Extremes are “nervous” about certain changes
Digital Extremes will open its free-to-play fantasy RPG Soulframe to everyone on 6 November, ending two years of closed alpha access. The release coincides with a major redesign intended to give new players clearer direction, although developers are concerned that its harsher opening could undermine the game’s cosy, fairytale atmosphere.
Update 17, called Verse of the Veilands, introduces corruption spread by the villainous Ode faction. Players will complete missions, called “votives”, to build energy and cleanse regions, restoring activities such as fishing and access to resources. The update also adds rideable adult wolves, a new Ode Shrike character loadout, and simpler mission access from the world map; the paid Founders programme will continue.
In short
- Soulframe opens to everyone on 6 November.
- Update 17 adds region cleansing and clearer mission guidance.
- Developers are weighing a harsher opening against the game’s cosy feel.
Explained simply
Soulframe is a free-to-play fantasy role-playing game made by Digital Extremes, the studio behind the online action game Warframe. Players explore a storybook-like world, take on missions and develop characters, with the game’s setting and atmosphere central to its identity.
The Ode are a hostile faction in Soulframe’s world. The game’s missions, called “votives”, involve building energy to clear corruption from regions, which can restore activities and access to resources. Digital Extremes has also offered paid Founders access while the game was in closed testing.
