Warner Bros. Discovery has sued Amazon, alleging that the company unlawfully encouraged contracted executives to leave for Amazon MGM Studios. The case matters because it could test the enforceability of fixed-term employment contracts under California law and affect competition for senior media talent.

The lawsuit names Pia Barlow, a former HBO Max marketing executive whose Warner Bros. contract reportedly ran until 31 October 2027, and alleges Amazon offered legal protection to employees who breached such agreements. Warner Bros. also claims Amazon tried to recruit another executive whose contract ended in December 2027, though that person remained; Amazon MGM Studios declined to comment.
