Warning over ‘cash traps’ fitted to ATMs

feeds.bbci.co.uk ·

Police have warned ATM users after cash traps were reported across Yorkshire, where most of the offences recorded nationwide have occurred. The devices hold withdrawn notes inside the machine while the customer’s account is debited, allowing offenders to collect the cash later.

Three men have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to steal and possessing articles intended for fraud in connection with the current offences. Police advise checking machines for unusual attachments or loose fittings, and contacting the bank immediately if a withdrawal is charged but no cash appears.
