Bezos said last year that the opinion section would prioritise personal liberties and free markets, with opposing viewpoints left to other outlets; the announcement coincided with former editor David Shipley’s departure. Acting chief executive Jeff D’Onofrio said O’Neal had made the section more balanced, financially sustainable and accessible, while confirming no successor has yet been named. Earlier this year, the Post cut a third of its workforce and reduced or ended coverage in areas including books, metro and international news.
