5 Seconds of Summer appeared on the YouTube series Hot Ones Versus, where the band faced off against each other with spicy chicken wings, personal questions and comic dares rather than dishing out honest opinions. The episode, part of First We Feast's competitive spin-off of Hot Ones, saw members repeatedly choose to eat extremely hot "death wings" instead of answering awkward prompts, such as ranking each other's solo albums or revealing personal financial details.

The episode, posted on 21 July, featured Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, Calum Hood and Ashton Irwin taking on challenges including a mock fashion show, a hands-free pizza-passing game and a round of musical chairs made hotter by an extra dab of "The Last Dab" sauce. Clifford ultimately won the competition, prompting him to jokingly challenge former One Direction member Niall Horan to take on all four band members in a future episode.
