Watch Ali G Boot ‘One of Them Oasis Twins’ Out of His Seat at Premiere of ‘Ali G: Who Iz I?’

Billboard ·

Sacha Baron Cohen brought Ali G to a screening of his new film and staged a comic confrontation with Noel Gallagher, pretending the Oasis musician had taken his seat. The encounter revives a joke between the two: Gallagher had criticised Ali G’s influence on children in 2015, while Cohen now teased him about Oasis and his return to music.

In a video posted on Instagram on 24 October, Ali G pulled Gallagher up from an A1 cinema seat and joked that he looked like “one of them Oasis twins”, before offering the audience mock-priced selfies and other services. Gallagher recently announced Oasis reunion dates for 2027, following the band’s 15-year split. Cohen’s film, *Ali G: Who Iz I?*, is a sequel to 2002’s *Ali G Indahouse*.

Explained simply

Ali G is a comic character created and played by Sacha Baron Cohen, who uses exaggerated slang and mistaken assumptions to make fun of public figures and social attitudes. Cohen first brought the character to cinemas in 2002 with Ali G Indahouse; his new film continues the character’s story.

Noel Gallagher is a singer and guitarist best known as a member of Oasis, the British band he formed with his brother Liam. The brothers’ public disagreements became part of the band’s story, and Oasis split in 2009 after years of tension.

Gallagher has previously criticised Ali G’s influence on children, giving the pair a history that the staged exchange draws on. The joke also refers to Oasis’s planned return to live shows in 2027, making the encounter a meeting of a long-running comedy character and a band back in the public eye.
