A California couple, Matthew and Elena Kittle, are suing The Bay Clubs Company after they say a staff member at its luxury El Segundo childcare centre caused their 23-month-old son to suffer a traumatic brain injury. According to the lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court, an employee swung the toddler between her legs, tossed him several feet into the air and failed to catch him, leaving him to fall to a hardwood floor. The case is notable because it concerns an upmarket country-club daycare marketed as a safe, supervised environment, and because surveillance footage of the incident has emerged.

The suit alleges the incident happened on 17 March 2025 at The Clubhouse at Bay Club El Segundo, a 14,000-square-foot facility advertised for supervised play and organised activities. Matthew Kittle reportedly dropped his son, identified only as C.K., at around 8.35am, saying he would collect him at 11.30am and would be at the nearby Manhattan Country Club, about a mile away. At roughly 9.20am, the complaint says, a female employee holding the child by his hands intentionally hoisted him about six feet off the ground and released him; the boy allegedly struck his head on the floor before the employee fell backwards on top of him.
