A family in Colombia captured video of the moment they fled their home moments before it was shaken by a powerful earthquake, footage that has been shared with the BBC. Mother-of-four Liliana Pérez Ocampo said the family initially mistook the shaking for a minor tremor, common in Colombia, before realising the intensity meant something far more serious was under way. The clip has drawn attention as a vivid illustration of the danger residents faced during the country's most powerful earthquake this century.

The 7.4-magnitude quake struck on Monday, and Pérez Ocampo's family, including two young children who were at school at the time, all escaped unharmed. She told the BBC World Service that although possessions could be replaced, the safety of her family was what mattered most. According to Colombia's Geological Service, the earthquake has killed at least 132 people, making it the deadliest and strongest to hit the country in the 21st century.
