The Louvre Museum in Paris reopened its Galerie d'Apollon on Wednesday, nine months after masked thieves stole jewellery worth millions in a daring daylight heist. The gallery, historically home to France's crown jewels, has reopened to visitors but without any jewels on display, marking a symbolic milestone in the museum's recovery from one of the country's most shocking thefts.

Museum director Christophe Leribault confirmed the crown jewels and gemstones will not return to the gallery, instead being housed in secure areas elsewhere in the Louvre. The robbery took place on 19 October, when thieves used a truck fitted with mechanical ladders to access the gallery via a balcony. Four people have since been arrested and are alleged by prosecutors to be involved in the theft, but the stolen jewellery has not yet been recovered.
