The latest account confirms that The Smashing Pumpkins’ Lollapalooza 2026 headline performance featured three surprise guests: Olivia Rodrigo, Yungblud and former touring bassist Melissa Auf der Maur. Their first appearance at their hometown festival since 1994 highlighted the band’s continuing connection to both newer pop-rock artists and its own history.
The band played a 17-song set on 31 July, with Yungblud joining ‘Luna’, Rodrigo singing ‘Thirty-Three’ alongside Billy Corgan on acoustic guitar, and Auf der Maur returning for closer ‘The Everlasting Gaze’. Auf der Maur had performed the same song with the group at a pre-festival show two nights earlier; she toured with the band in 1999 and 2000 and reunited with them in 2024.
