Social media footage showed people wading through knee-deep water and emergency services carrying out multiple rescues, while flooded vehicles were left stranded in the streets. The storms also disrupted a number of flights on the eve of the World Cup final in New Jersey, and several local sporting events were called off, including a Yankees-Dodgers baseball game in the Bronx.
