A Victoria Police officer, Sam Hansen, 43, has avoided a criminal conviction after admitting he used police CCTV systems to spy on his then-girlfriend, model Lisa Lewis, during their relationship. Hansen was charged with accessing and sharing police information after Lewis lodged an official complaint in April 2025, but Melbourne Magistrates' Court granted him a diversion rather than a conviction on Monday, a lenient outcome that has drawn criticism given his position of authority and access to state surveillance tools.

Hansen and Lewis met on Tinder in November 2024, but the relationship soured after Lewis grew convinced she was being watched, including an incident where Hansen phoned her outside a gala event, told her to "wave" at CCTV cameras and later showed her footage of her driving that same night. The diversion requires Hansen to remain of good behaviour for three months and pay a $100 donation to the court fund. Lewis, who has previously featured in headlines for a 2006 pitch invasion at a rugby Test and for work including as a naked newsreader and sex worker, has since hired law firm Robinson Gill to pursue a civil action against Hansen in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
