Waymo is reportedly considering ending or reshaping its partnership with Uber, under which its robotaxis operate through Uber’s app in Austin and Atlanta. The move would matter because it could give Waymo more direct control over customer access in key US markets, while weakening Uber’s role in autonomous ride-hailing.

Waymo has told Uber it plans to launch its own app in both cities from January 2028 alongside the existing service, while Uber says their contract expires in May 2028. The companies already ended their Phoenix arrangement earlier this year, and the report follows growing tensions over robotaxi safety, operations and regulation; Waymo had not commented at publication.
