“We won!” – London’s iconic Moth Club is saved
Moth Club in Hackney will remain open after Hackney Council rejected the second of two nearby development applications. The decision ends more than two years of uncertainty for the venue, where new residents could have increased the risk of noise complaints and threatened its future.
The club’s owners thanked supporters, local campaigners and music organisations, including the Music Venue Trust, and said they plan to celebrate with a party. More than 27,000 objections were emailed to the council by December 2025, and 35,000 people signed a petition. Open since 1972, Moth Club has hosted emerging and established musicians as well as comedy, film and club events.
