Pilot and three passengers killed in Quebec helicopter crash
A helicopter crashed in a field on Montreal’s South Shore on Saturday afternoon, killing pilot Suzanne Jutras, 50, and all three passengers. They were Chantal Raymond, whose birthday the trip was intended to celebrate, her son Loucas Perreault, and her daughter Oceane’s fiancé, Gabriel Jasmin. Oceane lost her mother, brother and partner in the crash; Jasmin was also the father of her young daughter.
Jutras was returning from a second tour of the day and was approaching her usual landing area in Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville when the helicopter appeared to stop, turn and tilt before hitting the ground and catching fire. Her partner, Yves Boulais, tried to reach the wreckage but could get no closer than about ten feet because of the flames. Jutras had several years’ flying experience, reportedly logged more than 500 hours and owned two helicopters. Canada’s Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause of the crash.
