Mudeford hut owners oppose permanent kiosk amid congestion and noise concerns

Daily Mail ·

Owners of high-value beach huts on Mudeford Sandbank, Dorset, are opposing plans to make The Beach House kiosk permanent, saying it is causing congestion, litter and disturbance in a quiet area. The dispute matters because council officers are recommending planning permission, with a decision expected next week.

The sandbank has about 350 huts, some valued at more than £400,000 and available for overnight stays from March to October. The restaurant has operated from temporary shipping containers since its former building burnt down in 2018; its owner is seeking retrospective permission for additions and permission to sell food. Sixty objections have been submitted, while owner Kim Slater has accused some hut owners of snobbery and says their assessment is wrong.
