Wednesday sign Reds winger Morrison on season loan
Sheffield Wednesday have signed Liverpool winger Kieran Morrison on a season-long loan, giving the League One club a promising young attacking option while allowing the 19-year-old to gain regular first-team football away from Anfield. The move fits Wednesday's stated push to rebuild the squad, with sporting director Simon Wilson saying Morrison should benefit from playing in front of large, passionate crowds in a high-intensity, forward-thinking team similar in style to Liverpool's approach.
Morrison, a Northern Ireland international born in Manchester, has made two senior Liverpool appearances – his debut in a Carabao Cup last-16 defeat by Crystal Palace last October and a substitute outing in the FA Cup win at Wolves in March – and was also named in a Champions League squad against PSV Eindhoven. He was shortlisted for the Premier League 2 Player of the Year award after scoring 15 goals and providing seven assists for Liverpool's Under-21s, signed a new four-year contract in May, and made his senior Northern Ireland debut in June. He is available for Wednesday's League One home game against Bradford City on Thursday.
