Collider ·

The 1995 family comedy *Casper*, starring Christina Ricci, has climbed to sixth place among films on Disney+ in the US during October. Its renewed popularity follows a cinema return marking a milestone anniversary and shows how the supernatural film has become a Halloween favourite for viewers of different ages.

The film stars Ricci as Kat Harvey, who befriends Casper, voiced by Malachi Pearson, after moving with her father, played by Bill Pullman, into a haunted mansion. Despite a mixed initial reception, it earned about $290 million at the box office. Disney is also developing a live-action and CGI reimagining, with Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston attached and Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer; the new version is planned to have a darker tone.
