Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo Showed Up on Late Night TV Painted In Gold

Billboard · 2 hours ago

Weezer performed on NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Wednesday, 19 August, with frontman Rivers Cuomo dressed head to toe in gold, ahead of the release of the band's new self-titled record, known as The Gold Album. The appearance served as promotion for the album, which arrives on Friday, 21 August via Reprise/Warner Records, and highlights the band's continued output three decades after their debut.

Cuomo performed the track "We Might as Well Be Strangers" in a full gold outfit, including trousers, jacket, bow tie, top hat and gold-toned make-up, before joining bandmate Patrick Wilson for an interview with Fallon, still in character. The Gold Album is the seventh in Weezer's colour-coded series of self-titled releases and their 16th studio album overall since 1994's Weezer (Blue Album); it was produced by Klas Åhlund and Kenneth Blume (formerly Kenny Beats), and Cuomo stressed the record was made through human collaboration rather than AI. The band will support the release with the Weezer: The Gathering tour, which begins in September across North America.
