Limp Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland has spoken about the band's surprising return to favour after years of being one of the most derided acts in music, following their late-1990s/early-2000s peak. He credited the shift to the band no longer taking itself too seriously, saying fans can sense they are simply having fun again after a turbulent period marked by internal conflict and, more recently, the death of bassist Sam Rivers.

The remarks came during an interview with Heavy Consequence, originally intended to discuss Borland's new signature Jackson King V KV guitar. He pointed to frontman Fred Durst's comic onstage personas and his own elaborate costumes as signs of the band's lighter attitude, alongside their self-deprecating 2021 comeback album title, Still Sucks. Borland suggested that as the band and its once-mocked nu-metal genre have aged, both they and former critics have relaxed, contributing to Limp Bizkit now headlining major rock festivals.
