Apple is preparing significant upgrades to HomeKit and the Home app as part of iOS 27, with a strong focus on integrating Apple Intelligence for the first time. The update aims to make smart home management less overwhelming and more useful, particularly for households with multiple cameras and connected accessories, by making notifications smarter and footage easier to understand at a glance.

Key additions include AI-generated summaries of important alerts, such as detecting someone at the door or smoke in the home, reducing notification overload. Security cameras gain improved face and animal detection, the ability to stitch together footage from multiple cameras into a single sequence following a person around the house, and support for 4K recording, alongside AI-written video descriptions and searchable event footage. The Home app will also be able to update software across all Apple TVs simultaneously, with general reliability improvements throughout. Separately, leaked internal code points to unannounced hardware in development, including a new HomePod mini and a rumoured "HomePad" device combining a HomePod with an iPad-like screen, though this remains unconfirmed and not part of the current iOS 27 release.
