What does MLO mean on your router and should you enable it?
MLO, or Multi-Link Operation, is a Wi-Fi 7 feature designed to let a router use several frequency bands at once, potentially making connections faster and more reliable. Its real-world benefits remain uncertain: current routers do not appear to deliver the full version often advertised, and older or incompatible devices cannot use it.
MLO can work through multiple radios transmitting and receiving simultaneously, or through a single radio that monitors bands and switches between them. A February 2026 Rtings report found no tested Wi-Fi 7 router supported the full multi-radio mode. For networks mixing older equipment, or without Wi-Fi 7 devices, disabling MLO is the safer choice; people with a complete Wi-Fi 7 setup can compare performance with it on and off.
- MLO aims to improve Wi-Fi 7 speed and stability.
- Tested routers did not support its full multi-radio mode.
- Enable it only if your devices support Wi-Fi 7 and performance improves.
