What is Apple’s Image Playground app for and how do you use it?

Engadget ·

Apple’s Image Playground is an on-device image generator that lets people create, customise and share images, including personalised emoji called Genmoji. It is built into apps such as Messages, Keynote and Freeform, and a recent update adds more flexible style prompts, touch-based edits and options for Contact Posters and Lock Screen wallpapers.

Users can start with a text description, choose a style, or base an image on a person or photo from their library. They can then refine the result with further prompts or by selecting and changing parts of the image. The app launched in December 2024 and requires Apple Intelligence on an iPhone 15 Pro or later, or a supported iPad or Mac with an M1 chip or newer.
