Fortnite's next major update, Chapter 7 Season 4, subtitled "Override," launches on Thursday 20 August, bringing a wave of video game crossovers into the battle royale. Popular protagonists such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Crash Bandicoot, Mega Man, Kingdom Hearts' Sora, Persona 5's Joker and even a Tetris block will join the roster, alongside recognisable locations like Sonic's Green Hill Zone appearing on the map.

Season 3 is expected to go offline for maintenance at around 7am BST on Thursday, with the new season predicted to go live at roughly 11am BST the same day, based on estimates from leakers and content creators rather than an official Epic Games announcement. Some new characters will be obtainable through the battle pass, while others will only be available to purchase from the item shop. Sprites are also returning with a fresh selection, including Miles "Tails" Prower, who will grant players the ability to glide, though sprites collected during Season 3 won't carry over.
