WhatsApp is taking on Partiful with expanded Events feature
WhatsApp is expanding its Events feature so hosts can invite people who do not have WhatsApp accounts. They will be able to view event details and RSVP without signing up, making the planning tools more useful for groups that do not all use the same messaging app and putting WhatsApp in closer competition with services such as Partiful.
The Events hub in WhatsApp settings will show past and upcoming plans and allow hosts to manage events and RSVPs. Hosts can add a header photo and send custom reminders; guests without accounts will not see the event address until they RSVP, and hosts’ phone numbers will be hidden from guests they do not know. The update is due to roll out to all WhatsApp users over the following weeks, following other efforts to connect with non-users, including guest access to video calls and the introduction of usernames.
In short
- WhatsApp Events will support invitations to people without accounts.
- Guests can view details and RSVP without signing up.
- The update is expected to roll out over the coming weeks.
