WhatsApp has launched encrypted calling through its web interface, meaning users can now make and receive audio and video calls without installing a desktop app. The update, which Meta is rolling out gradually, brings the browser experience closer to parity with the mobile and desktop apps and removes a key limitation that previously forced users onto dedicated software for calls.

The web version supports both one-on-one and group calls with no time limits, and retains familiar features such as screen sharing, reactions, favourites and call history, all while remaining end-to-end encrypted. Additional updates include the ability to transfer calls seamlessly between devices, a waiting room for group calls with "Require approval to join" enabled, background noise reduction, and faster HD video streaming.
