Rebecca Yarros's hugely popular "Fourth Wing" (Empyrean) romantasy series has reached a turning point, with fans wondering when the fourth main instalment will appear. After the first three books arrived in quick succession and the recent sequels, "Iron Flame" and "Onyx Storm", drew strong sales but mixed reviews, Yarros has taken a longer break to regroup, so the wait for book four will be unusually long.

There is currently no confirmed release date for the fourth Empyrean novel, though it is estimated to arrive at some point in 2027 — a longer gap than the previous 13-month maximum between books. In the meantime, Yarros will release a roughly 170-page mystery Empyrean novella on 29 September 2026, set in the same universe but not counted as the official fourth entry; its contents remain undisclosed. A separate "Fourth Wing" graphic novel is still in development, and a Prime Video TV adaptation is in the works with showrunner Meredith Averill, director Lisa Joy, and executive producers including Jonathan Nolan and Michael B. Jordan.
