The documentary The Cycle of Love recounts how Indian artist Pradyumna Kumar Mahanandia, known as PK, cycled thousands of miles from India to Sweden to reunite with Lotta von Schedvin, the Swedish woman he fell in love with in 1975. Their extraordinary journey, shaped by determination, coincidence and predictions about PK’s future wife, has led to a lasting marriage of nearly 50 years and now forms the basis of a warmly received film.

PK travelled about 6,000 miles on a secondhand Raleigh bicycle, carrying $80, and followed the westward “hippy trail” through several countries, although parts of the journey involved flights and trains. He arrived at Lotta’s home in Borås in May 1977 after 123 days; director Orlando von Einsiedel discovered the story through a book given to him by the couple’s children and was persuaded by its remarkable details, including that Lotta was a Taurus, musical and connected to land with a forest.
