Whips & Wilde Vs Webs As ‘I Want Your Sex’ Debuts With ‘Spider-Man’ — Specialty Preview
Magnolia Pictures is releasing Gregg Araki’s R-rated comedy I Want Your Sex in around 700 US cinemas as counter-programming to the record-breaking Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Starring Olivia Wilde as a provocative artist and Cooper Hoffman as her inexperienced sexual muse, the film arrives with strong early reviews and follows festival screenings and promotional partnerships aimed at adult audiences.
Janus Films is also opening Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s historical mystery The Samurai And The Prisoner in New York and Los Angeles before a wider August release; it has earned nearly $10 million in Japan and holds a 95% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score. IFC Entertainment is rereleasing Richard Linklater’s 2014 coming-of-age film Boyhood on 110 screens, while Motor City remains in 600 locations in its second week after opening on 1,600.
