Mattel unveiled a new Barbie Signature Doll honouring Whitney Houston at a gala event in Atlanta on Saturday, coinciding with what would have been the legendary singer's 63rd birthday. The doll's design draws inspiration from Houston's iconic 1987 music video for "I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)" and was developed in collaboration with Pat Houston, president of the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation, who emphasised that the doll celebrates Houston's lasting influence and conveys the message that dreams have no limits.

The gala also paid tribute to music executive Clive Davis, Houston's longtime mentor who passed away in June, with the evening featuring performances by Babyface and other artists. The release adds Houston to an exclusive roster of musicians honoured through Mattel's Barbie Signature Series, joining Diana Ross, Elton John, Tina Turner, Stevie Nicks, Gloria Estefan, Aaliyah, and Miley Cyrus.
