John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” began as “Child of Nature”, a song drafted during The Beatles’ 1968 retreat in Rishikesh. Reworked after the band’s break-up into a deeply personal confession of insecurity, it became one of the defining tracks on Lennon’s 1971 album Imagine.

Recorded at Lennon’s Ascot Sound studio in Berkshire, the song featured Lennon, Joey Molland and Tom Evans of Badfinger on acoustic guitars. Other contributors included Nicky Hopkins on piano, Alan White on harmonium, Klaus Voormann on bass and Mike Pinder on tambourine; Lennon also performed the memorable whistled melody. The song was not released as a single, but Roxy Music’s cover topped the UK charts shortly after Lennon’s death.
