NOFX’s farewell documentary, 40 Years of F–kin’ Up, will not be released on streaming services because the retired punk band wants it to remain a shared, in-person experience. Fat Mike Burkett said wider online exposure would not benefit a group that no longer performs, and the approach reflects NOFX’s long-standing DIY ethos.

The film, directed by James Buddy Day, premiered at South by Southwest in March and has since played festivals and selected cinemas internationally. It will be shown on more than 200 screens on 23 and 26 August, after a run continuing through late July; organisers hope to extend screenings to unconventional venues. The documentary includes concert and backstage footage, animation and a singalong section, while about 90% of its screenings have reportedly sold out.
