Wigan Warriors secured a 38-16 victory over St Helens, their third consecutive derby win, as Saints began life after Paul Rowley’s departure with another disappointing defeat. The result strengthens Wigan’s position near the top of Super League, while highlighting St Helens’ poor run of form and difficult transition under interim coach Eamon O’Carroll.

Saints led twice early through Jack Welsby and Jacob Douglas, but Wigan responded decisively with tries from Bevan French, Zach Eckersley, Oliver Partington and Adam Keighran. Eckersley and Partington each scored twice, while Saints also had a controversial Harry Robertson try overturned and Jackson Hastings was sin-binned; St Helens have now lost seven of their past 11 matches in all competitions. Wigan moved level with leaders Leeds on 30 points, although Wakefield’s win over Castleford left them third.
