Williams scores in Warrington’s victory at Hull KR

BBC Sport · 2 hours ago

George Williams scored his first try since returning from neck surgery as Warrington Wolves beat defending Super League champions Hull KR 34-28 away from home, moving to within two points of the competition's leaders. The victory was a significant boost for Warrington, whose England half-back had missed almost four months after injuring his neck against Catalans Dragons in April and had only returned to action five days earlier against York.

Warrington led at various points thanks to tries from Albert Hopoate (2), James Bentley, Toafofoa Sipley, Liam Byrne and Williams, while Hull KR's Mikey Lewis, back from a four-game ban, was sin-binned late on for a dangerous charge-down attempt. The result lifts Wolves to second on points difference behind leaders Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors after 23 games, while Hull KR remain fifth and still fighting for a play-off place; Warrington also lost full-back Josh Thewlis to a hamstring injury during the win.
