Willie Nelson Reflects on Marriage and Late-Life Artistry in New Book ‘The Last Leaf’
Country music icon Willie Nelson will release a new memoir, "The Last Leaf: Reflections on Late-Life Creativity—and My Longest Love Affair," this November, in which the 93-year-old shares insights into how he has remained artistically productive into his tenth decade. The book, published by Penguin Press, is notable both as another instalment in Nelson's prolific late-career output and for its focus on his marriage to his wife Annie, whom he credits with saving his life.
The Last Leaf is due out on 10 November and marks Nelson's sixth book of the decade, alongside 11 albums released since 2020, following his most recent record, Dream Chaser, in May. Nelson has said the book's central story is that of Annie, "his wife and best friend for four decades," describing how she helped pull him through a near-fatal bout of Covid-19 when he had lost the will to continue. He remains on tour this summer, with dates running through to Farm Aid on 26 September in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
