Kyren Wilson won the Northern Ireland Open for the second time in three years, beating Jak Jones 9-2 in the final at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall. The emphatic result adds to Wilson’s ranking-title record and gives him his first tournament win since 2025.

Wilson led 6-2 at the end of the afternoon session, making three century breaks, including runs of 101 and 135; Jones replied with a 130. Wilson then won the first three frames of the evening to secure the Alex Higgins trophy. The final repeated the 2024 World Championship decider, which Wilson also won.

Explained simply

Snooker is played on a table with pockets, where players take turns potting coloured balls in a set order. A frame is one game, and a match is made up of several frames; a century break means scoring at least 100 points in one turn.

The Northern Ireland Open is a professional ranking tournament, so its result counts towards players’ standings on the snooker tour. Kyren Wilson and Jak Jones are Welsh and English professionals respectively, and they have also met in major finals, including the 2024 World Championship.
