A parent at a youth American football match in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, ran on to the field and tripped a nine-year-old player as he was approaching a touchdown. The incident has prompted concern about adult behaviour at children’s sporting events, and police issued the man with a disorderly conduct citation.

The incident occurred during an under-10s match last Saturday; the man was the father of a player on the opposing team. Police said he cooperated and acknowledged he had acted wrongly, while the child’s coach alleged he intended to cause harm. The boy was reported to be unharmed and ready to continue playing, and the opposing team has reportedly banned the parent from future matches.
