Bungie has confirmed it will continue supporting Marathon alongside Destiny, despite the extraction shooter falling short of player and commercial expectations. The studio plans to develop Marathon into a deeper survival experience, while acknowledging that it needs to evolve and attract more players.

Planned improvements include a permanent player-versus-environment mode, possible new player-versus-player formats and continued player-versus-player-versus-environment gameplay. A Nightfall Refresh is due in October, followed by the large Symbiosis update in December, with support planned at least until Marathon’s first anniversary in March.
