Wolves’ Chirewa extends Burnley’s home woes as Vardy’s strike is in vain

The Guardian ·

Wolves came from behind to beat Burnley at Turf Moor, with substitute Tawanda Chirewa scoring the winner soon after entering the match. The result extended Burnley’s home league winless run to 21 games, a streak that is approaching an unwanted Football League record.

Jamie Vardy put Burnley ahead with his first goal for the club, but Fer López equalised before half-time after a mistake by Kyle Walker. Chirewa, a 23-year-old Zimbabwe international, scored in the 72nd minute; Burnley’s last home league win was against Leeds on 18 October, and their next home fixtures are against Portsmouth and Blackburn.

  • Chirewa scored soon after coming on to give Wolves a 2-1 win.
  • Burnley’s home league winless run has reached 21 games.
  • Vardy scored his first goal for Burnley, but it was not enough.
