Two European grey wolves have moved into New Forest Wildlife Park in Hampshire, restoring the species to the site nearly two years after its previous pack died out. The new arrivals, a two-year-old female from Belgium and a one-year-old male from France, are settling into a purpose-built enclosure, with the park saying it had always planned to bring wolves back but was delayed by post-Brexit paperwork issues involved in transporting animals from the EU.

The pair spent time bonding together in Belgium before travelling on to Hampshire, and their move followed months of planning with the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria's species coordinator, according to curator Jason Palmer. The park's previous wolves, which had arrived together in 2010, gradually died of age-related illness, and in October 2024 staff made the "incredibly difficult" decision to put down the last two, Chaser and Aspen, as wolves are highly social animals that struggle without companionship. The new wolves join other recent additions to the park's predator collection, including a wolverine named Bodie and lynx sisters Tora and Inga.
