Newton Heath is an area of north-east Manchester. Dorking Avenue is a residential street, and police were called there after reports of a disturbance in the early hours.

In England, a death investigated as a suspected stabbing is treated as a criminal investigation while detectives establish what happened. An arrest on suspicion of an offence means police are investigating a person’s possible involvement; it is not a finding of guilt.

Police investigations can draw on witness accounts and recordings from CCTV, doorbells and mobile phones. Such evidence may help detectives establish the events and identify anyone involved.
