Daily Mail ·

A 35-year-old woman, Samantha Natalie Phythian, was found dead in a burning van in Prestatyn, North Wales on Sunday night. Thomas Bell, 38, has been charged with her murder after being arrested. Post-mortem examinations revealed she was pregnant at the time of her death, adding another dimension to the tragedy.

Ms Phythian, from Rhyl, was found in the vehicle after emergency services responded to reports of a fire at approximately 11:30pm. The judge overseeing the case stated that the victim was believed to be alive when the van caught fire and was killed as a result of the arson itself. Bell appeared at Mold Crown Court via videolink on Friday and was remanded in custody. A plea and trial preparation hearing is scheduled for January, with the trial set to take place over three weeks in April 2027.
