A 47-year-old woman from North Cornelly died in hospital after her car crashed into a wall in Coity, Bridgend. Police said her injuries were unrelated to the collision and arrested a 61-year-old man on suspicion of murder, making the circumstances surrounding her death the focus of an investigation.

South Wales Police were called to Coity Road at about 12.43pm on Monday, 19 October. Officers carried out a significant operation near Ger-y-Nant, cordoning off the area and evacuating a building; residents were temporarily displaced and later thanked for their co-operation. Coity is an area in Bridgend county borough, in south Wales, and North Cornelly is a nearby community. South Wales Police investigate serious incidents across the region, including deaths where the circumstances are unclear.

A car crash and a person’s death do not necessarily have the same cause. In this case, police said the woman’s injuries were unrelated to the collision, so investigators are examining what happened around her death; an arrest on suspicion of murder is an investigative step, not a finding of guilt.
