A 24-year-old woman was arrested in Daytona Beach, Florida, on 30 August after allegedly crashing her Ford Bronco into a parked car and then punching its owner in the face. Elizabeth Boucher now faces several felony charges, including drink-driving, drug possession, resisting an officer and battery, in a case that highlights the potential legal fallout of driving under the influence and the dangers such incidents pose to bystanders and property.

Footage showed the roughly $50,000 (£37,000) SUV careering off a bend and smashing into a parked Honda, pushing it onto a nearby lawn. According to a police affidavit, officers found Boucher struggling to stand and smelling of alcohol, and she appeared confused when told she had been in a crash. The Honda's owner told police Boucher struck her after the collision, though she fought back and knocked Boucher to the ground; Boucher was arrested after refusing a breathalyser test, tearfully protesting "I thought we were all friends" as officers handcuffed her. She has since been released from custody and is due in court on 21 October.
