Anastasiia Berezovska found dead in Ukraine after Monaco parcel bombing

BBC World · 11 hours ago

Anastasiia Berezovska, the 39-year-old Ukrainian woman suspected of carrying out a parcel bombing in Monaco that injured a sanctioned Ukrainian multi-millionaire and his family, has been found dead in Ukraine, according to the country's security service (SBU). The discovery ends a cross-border manhunt that had spanned several countries and marks a dramatic turn in a case that drew an Interpol red notice and involved suspected accomplices within Ukraine's own defence establishment.

Berezovska, who allegedly planted the bomb in an apartment building's entrance hall on 29 June and was said to have been disguised as a man during the attack, arrived in Ukraine on 1 July and was later found with gunshot wounds to the head. Two people, including a serving officer in Ukraine's Ministry of Defence intelligence directorate, have been detained on suspicion of her premeditated murder; the officer reportedly confessed. The men were also being investigated as possible accomplices in the bombing after allegedly transferring funds to Berezovska's crypto and bank accounts, and a search of one suspect's home uncovered a basement room resembling a torture chamber. The bombing itself injured three people, two seriously, and the suspect had earlier been tracked fleeing through Italy and Germany.
