A Ukrainian-born woman from Florida who disappeared during a road trip near San Diego last year, after leaving her mother an unsettling letter and Bible-reading videos, has been located alive in Mexico. Ganna Kovrizhnykh, 39, also known online as Angel Volnaya, lost contact with her family on 5 July last year near Potrero, prompting a lengthy investigation by the San Diego Sheriff's Office into whether she had come to harm or left of her own accord.

Investigators established contact with Kovrizhnykh in the western Mexican state of Sinaloa on 7 August 2026 and confirmed her identity, having long suspected she had voluntarily crossed the border. Before vanishing, she had told her mother in a letter to take her assets, including an abandoned Jeep and camper trailer, and posted videos featuring apocalyptic religious messages and a bag of survival supplies. The Ukrainian Embassy has been informed of her whereabouts, and she had reportedly lived in Hallandale Beach, Florida, since 2022 before setting off on the trip.
