Woodhead Pass remained closed in both directions a day after a car fire spread to nearby moorland, starting a wildfire. The closure of this key Pennine route was intended to protect road users and allow emergency crews to tackle the blaze safely.

The affected A628 section runs between the A57 at Hollingworth and the A616 at Flouch. Fire and rescue services were working alongside police and National Highways, while drivers were diverted via local roads and advised to consider longer alternative trans-Pennine routes.
