X cracks down on creators who steal content

TechCrunch · 3 hours ago

X has tightened enforcement within its creator revenue-sharing system by deploying an improved Grok AI model that detects duplicated content at significantly higher rates than previous versions. The platform identified 1.5 million stolen posts in its latest enforcement cycle and has adjusted its payout structure so that when creators modify stolen content through edits or watermarks to mask its origins, the monetization revenue flows to the original content creators instead. This protection now extends to viral text posts that have been recirculated without attribution.

Alongside technical improvements, X has established stricter behavioural policies for creator program participation. Accounts caught engaging in bait-and-switch tactics—such as explicitly asking followers to reply in exchange for follows—will be permanently removed from monetization after three violations. Similarly, users who deliberately attempt to circumvent the content-detection system will lose creator program eligibility. The company estimates these combined enforcement measures will redirect over $1 million in payouts to legitimate original creators.

  • X's upgraded AI detects stolen content three times faster and redirects creator payments to original authors instead of re-posters
  • Accounts caught repeatedly soliciting engagement or trying to circumvent anti-theft policies face permanent removal from the creator revenue program
